Obama civilian force.

I found a clip of this proposal a month ago and made a point to mention it in a video I made weeks ago. I must admit that at the time I felt that the proposal was rather silly and impractical. Imagine my surprise when I read the following on Change.gov (Barack's official website):

"When you choose to serve -- whether it's your nation, your community or simply your neighborhood -- you are connected to that fundamental American ideal that we want life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness not just for ourselves, but for all Americans. That's why it's called the American dream."


The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.


The irony is that people actually believed that John McCain would impose a draft. Irony indeed.


There are quite a few problems I have with this. First of all, this is a violation of freedom and while I am no lawyer, seems to be unconstitutional.

Specifically the 13th Amendment .
The Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution officially abolished and continues to prohibit slavery, and with limited exceptions, such as those convicted of a crime, prohibits involuntary servitude. It was adopted on December 6, 1865.

That should be enough to be disgusted with this. Secondly, the federal government is growing and these programs will need to be paid for - so whether we like it or not, our taxes will increase. Thirdly and equally disturbing, the underlying community service decisions will be decided by the government. Therefore, not only will the freedom to choose be evaporated, but young succeptible children can be swayed and manipulated to the programs' of the government's choosing. This has the potential to expand and solidify organizations like ACORN and other left-wing groups, ensuring and entrenching one party rule in this country. The fact that this is on the website (http://change.gov/americaserves/) suggests that Obama is quite serious about this. This should be resisted and fought at all costs, under no circumstances should this country follow in the way of the Hitler Youth.


By the way, for those that think AmericCorps is a good program - remember that growing federal programs are dangerous as they becomes an open gateway to fraud. AmericCorps for example suffers from accusation of corruption, waste and failure. They are accused of assisting food stamp, welfare and public housing promotion instead of reading and educating. Falling for the trap of the benevolence of a cause while ignoring it's direct consequences will prove to be a disaster. Once a government agency/program is established, dismantling it becomes virtually impossible. It must be stopped early!

What is wrong with this country?

I was browsing the latest IBD poll and it finally struck me. I had this idea brewing for the past few weeks now and this particular poll hit a nerve. What jumped out was the age group and who they are likely voting for. Obama / McCain 18-24: 74% 21% The rest of the age groups are more or less even with ages 65+ leaning more for McCain. Those folks should probably avoid leaning - hazardous to their health. Now, if you are a member of this group and are part of the 74% you are probably feeling good about yourself. If you are in the 21% then you are probably used to feeling desperate and angry that your peers ostracize you as if you were the next coming of the bubonic plague. But this number is very telling. 401k Takeover Proposal. IRAs in danger?

Just read a piece that made my blood boil. The story is from Carolina Journal, but I will paste the first paragraph below. Even if you currently do not have a 401k, this is the most dangerous proposal I have ever heard. The only similar example I can think of, would be the gold seizure under FDR. If this proposal becomes legitimate, you MUST write to your local representative, congressman, senator, etc. This will be absolutely crippling to our economy as investors will stage a mass exodus out of the market. If you want a demonstration of this in action, look at Argentina. They just did something very similar.
