"Vice" tightened for Massachusetts residents.

One would never guess that America is experiencing one of the worst recessions in history. Considering the legislation being passed on the federal level and proposals being made on the state level, one would think that Americans are enjoying tremendous excesses and the government simply wants to partake.

Yesterday, Obama signed into law the SCHIP modifications that would expand coverage to more children. The pitfalls of this legislation are too numerous to list, but the burden on the taxpayer is growing. Under the new modifications applicants will no longer have to provide social security numbers when filing for aid, thereby allowing illegals to freely and openly claim taxpayer funded health insurance. To finance this brilliant piece of work federal taxes on tobacco are going up by .62 cents. Massachusetts residents already make the trip to New Hampshire to buy tobacco, but for those not wanting to make the drive SCHIP will provide the necessary incentives. In short, a group of Americans will be asked to finance the health insurance of illegal immigrants and "children" up to 19 years old. Starting to miss Bush a bit? (He vetoed this twice)

Meanwhile, Deval Patrick is proposing ideas to battle our own state deficits and he is killing two conservative birds with one large liberal stone. Not only will he raises taxes to fund deficit gaps, but also health and wellness programs like tobacco control and violence prevention. He will accomplish this by raising taxes on alcohol, candy and soda - evil elements that damage your health. Recessions are a wonderful time for you to start thinking about your health and if you fail to do so, then the government will make the decision for you. As one very enthusiastic Democrat states:

"This is great. Are you kidding me? I really like, from a policy standpoint, taxing things for health reasons so we have more money for health care," said Rep. Cory Atkins, D-Concord.

Of course you do Comrade Atkins, the party thanks you for your commitment.

There you have it folks, in a matter of time, every citizen currently engaged in harming his or her own body with grotesque showcasing of greed and opulence will be forced to finance the continued expansion of both local and federal government. For those of you not familiar with standard operating procedures, taxes are like tight Boston alleys - one way streets, in this case UP.

As someone hailing from the former Soviet Union and familiar with how things work, I have two parting words for you. Black market. Your vice will thank you for it.
