While I am no fan boy of Republicans I am all about restoring some semblance of power back in Congress. In a matter of weeks a special election in New York’s 20 th Congressional district to replace Congresswoman, Kirsten Gillibrand , will be held. As you recall Kirsten was appointed recently to fill Clinton's vacant seat, a blue dog democrat voting quietly and squarely with the liberal agenda. To make a long story short GOPTrust PAC is mobilizing to back the republican candidate and wrestle the district back from democrat hands. This may seem like a long shot , but they would not wasting their time and energies on this election. What I like about this PAC the most is their concentrated efforts to back any candidate that promises to stifle or slow down the spending of the stimulus bill. I have been meaning to focus on our illegal immigrant problem for quite some time, especially in light of California's dire financial situation and Arizona's growing crime problem. My girlfriend forwarded me a chain letter this morning and while I typically ignore them, this one looked about right. I have not verified all the numbers, but when dealing with illegals numbers change so often it becomes impossible to track them all. In the face of climbing unemployment the original hope and change, governor Deval Patrick appointed his friend to a position that has been vacant for YEARS. In the Boston Herald story, Marian Walsh was selected to be director of the state’s Health and Educational Facilities Authority and guess how many years that post has been unfilled? Three? Six? Try, twelve bloody years. Salary? $175,000! Meanwhile we are facing down the barrel of the tax cannon, a potential increase on gas that would propel Massachusetts to the top of the heap in gas taxes making us number one. At least we are at the best at something - the reaming of taxpayers. This is on top of the already existing proposed taxes on alcohol, sodas, candy, car taxes ( RMV fees) and probably a litany of other small revenue boosters that I am not aware of. Unfortunately for us, the Omnibus was signed into law today and it's 8,000+ list of earmarks. I tried reading them, but it is literally thousands of pages from individuals politicians requesting projects. Some of the popular ones like Hawaii starlight research are published all over the Internet , but this bill is earmark heaven, maybe it's the same heaven they are studying in Hawaii? So how does Obama prove he is a liar? A man who originally promised to bring a new wave of accountability to Washington and a new way of doing things is certainly not bringing much change. For one, I am reminded by a news story from Jan 6 th , where he made a very brash statement and I vowed to bring this up. The answer to this question on liberal websites is considered common knowledge; of course Red states get more federal aid and of course blue states fund the rest of America. Let's look at the stimulus package and where the money is going to see if this piece of gospel lives up to it's expectations. I am using this breakdown, downloadable here (state by state from Center on Budget and Policy Priorities); The stimulus bill allocates $39.5 Billion for education and $8.8 billion for other services. There is also apparently another $5 billion for incentive grants, but this particular sum is not broken down yet. So we will use the $48.3 billion figure. All in all, these funds will be used to fund everything the states require including paying out all non-federal aid. Despite the best effort of ths incoming administration strong political divisions are getting stronger each and every day. It is important to recognize that the battle is not so much between political parties, but between idealogies. Dominant factions comprised of liberals and conservatives dominate today's debates with smaller groups like libertarians and socialists vying for attention. Given who is in charge, it is important to identify the "enemy" and understand that there are many kinds of liberals. Some of the greatest conservative practitioners emerged out of liberalism (Reagan, Churchill ), so while it is convenient to label these people as afflicted with the dangerous disease of liberalism, do keep in mind - it is curable. You have probably heard some of the rumors that a bill festooned with thousands of earmarks passed the house recently and making it's way through the Senate. This is the Omnibus Appropriations Act of 2009 a bill responsible for much of the federal program funding that our bloated government requires for daily operation. Bob Nelson is a surprising opposition member considering he lead the liberal Republicans Snow, Collins and Specter on the unfortunate passing of the stimulus bill.
