More Americans supporting the legalization of Marijuana!

According to Gallup, whose numbers are to be considered with skepticism Americans now support legalization of good 'ol Mary Jane at the highest level yet; 44%. This is fantastic news as we have an administration in power that is actually capable of considering such legislation, but are currently too busy thinking of ways to destroy the economy instead of focusing on things that really matter.  Support for marijuana is growing, but at a painfully slow rate and this is due to the generational change.  More younger people support legalization (for their own personal needs) than the older more conservative population, leading me to the major point.
The highest level of support for decriminalizing the use of marijuana today is seen with self-described liberals, among whom 78% are in favor. In contrast, 72% of conservatives are opposed.
What?  Can conservatives please wake up and smell the weed?  Might actually be good for you to loosen up and ponder on what you are doing.  You are enabling the government to control through force an enforcement of a substance used for personal reasons.  Where in the constitution that you so claim to defend does it provide the federal government with right to control narcotics, of any sort?  Have we not learned our lesson from the times of the prohibition?  Let us be quite realistic here, the war on drugs is not only an alarming and upsetting violation of personal liberties - the same liberties the constitution enables, but is a tremendous failure.  Consumption of drugs has only gone up and the violence associated with drugs continues to persist at high levels despite the billions of dollars we throw at the problem.  We have agencies upon agencies with guns, power to arrest, power to jail and power to seize personal property only because some people wish to smoke, eat or inject a substance into their own body?  This is madness!

Imagine if we could lay off numerous drug enforcement agents and divert the rest to stopping terrorism, rapists, murderers and thieves.  Imagine if the rights to sell drugs returns to the rightful owners; the states and the states could then tax and control the sale of these drugs?  We would generate immense revenue, reduce crime and have enough money left over to setup rehab clinics and public messages to educate people on the dangers of drugs.  Worst case scenario, those states with a conservative population can ban all the drugs they want and can observe the outcomes of legalization within those states brave enough to abandon this stupid policy.

If this sounds reasonable, then marijuana should not be the end, but all drugs must be legalized.  The danger of one particular substance does not grant the federal government immunity from the constitution and the power once again belongs to the states, with each state deciding on which particular substances they want legalized.   This move will also be a crippling blow to South American drug cartels as prices for drugs will immediately plummet, thereby reducing international murder rates.  Win for all!
