Breaking News: House passes health care bill 220-215
Not much to say here other than to wince in pain at the realization that a difference of 5 votes just sold us down the river. Democrats were clapping as the time wound down and Pelosi almost burst into tears of joy as she read the final tally. Rep. Joseph Cao is the only Republican voting YEA in a most mind boggling last minute action considering he ruined the Republican's opportunity to label this as a Democrat only bill. Democrats were able to gain enough votes by amending the bill with the Stupak-Pitts proposal which gave the pro-lifers "cover". Remember this, America is hijacked by a radical minority and this is fact. HR 3962 is supported by 18% of the people on opencongress.org and only 42% support the bill according to America's best pollster.
It is now up to the Senate of course, but this battle for the time being has been lost and Reid need only get a handful of people to tip the scale. An amendment here or there could do the trick and of course there is always budget reconciliation - the notorious "nuclear option" as they say.
This is depressing, sad, scary and extremely disappointing. At this point of course I am reminded of the debate we had over whether McCain or Obama would be worse for this country and it is now painfully obvious that under McCain something like this would never have happened. Even a RINO would not hand over 1/6th of the economy and people's most intimate decisions to the government for the sake of 10-15 million uninsured at the cost of 1-3 TRILLION dollars (depending on the source).

Tonight is a great loss for America even as some clueless and naive liberals cheer.
Update: The question of whether the mandate is legal (I want to say without even thinking - it is not) Orin Hatch offers his perspective. Personally, I do not see how the Supreme Court allows the individual mandate to exist. We live in a nation where the Constitution is the law of the land and every member of Congress swears to uphold it - this bill is a travesty on the deriliction of this sacred duty.

The real story about the true cost is even more dramatic. The bill is front loaded with taxes, and back-loaded with spending in the first ten years. Since most of the spending in the House bill does not fully go into effect until 2014, the 10-year cost estimates based on the preliminary CBO score (for years 2010 through 2019) only account for six years of new spending under the plan. Once it is implemented (over a full 10-year window from years 2014 to 2023), the giant House health bill carries a price tag of $2.4 trillion, or as much as $2.6 trillion with the “doc fix.”
