Delaware aftermath, O'Donnell was a message and the GOP better listen.

Well yesterday shook some things up, eh?  From my vantage point tempers were running wild across the Internet and within the GOP ranks.  Some of the responses were not so much because the veteran Mike Castle was upset and upset badly, but because the quality of the candidate leaves much to be desired.

Christine O'Donnell by all measures is not a quality candidate and in some cases has been deemed unelectable.  Perhaps that is so, but one must really examine things from a more objective and simplistic fashion.  Taking everything at face value, considering the fact that O'Donnell is a poor candidate, considering that she may very well lose to Coons in November - she still won!

She won, because Delaware Republicans were given a choice.  On one hand they had the establishment choice, status quo Republican Mike Castle, as liberal as a Republican can be yet a Republican poised to win in November and on the other hand they had O'Donnell, a candidate with a checkered past, no credentials and bizarre social views.  My friends, this was a message that the GOP better recognize.  People are tired of modern liberalism, tired of bankrupting this country with insane ideas like cap-and-trade, tired of subsidizing everything from loser banks to loser mortgages and tired of living outside our means.  We are tired of struggling through an economy whose only existence can be traced to federal spending, tired of inflation eroding our savings and our purchasing power and tired of the federal government spiraling costs in education, health care, fuel, appliances and any other industry they have their paws on.  Tiiiiiiiiiiired.

Last night, the liberal Republican went down in flames and rightfully so.  Immediately thereafter instead of rallying behind the decision put forth by the people of Delaware the predictable establishment issued the following statement:

In fact, just last night Charles Krauthammer called a vote for O’Donnell as irresponsible. Well according to a recent report, it turns out that the establishment — in this case the NRSC – won’t be funding O’Donnell’s campaign.

Republican response, embodied within Krauthammer is sad and extremely upsetting.  Irresponsible?  What exactly would be responsible then Charles?  Pick an individual specifically primed to win in November?  At that rate, since principles and values are clearly irrelevant why not discard the entire notions of primaries and let the wise all-knowing GOP hand pick candidates.  Perhaps Charles can offer suggestions since he clearly has a knack for these things.

Thankfully, as the night passed and tempers cooled - a welcoming development has emerged.

In a clear sign of the grassroots pressure on Republican leaders, National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn just put out a statement embracing Christine O'Donnell -- a dramatic contrast with his group's curt response last night -- and writing her a big check.

Bravo.  Give the fiscally responsible and conservative candidate a platform and an opportunity to spread her message.  November will show us whether the deep blue state of Delaware is capable of embracing this change or whether they prefer the policies that have been destroying us.  Even if they are not ready, Republicans defeated the liberal and went with the better candidate, much like we discussed previously. Mike Castle should rally behind O'Donnell and break down GOP's elitist image, let the people know you are listening.  Perhaps doing so would convince Murkowski to stop being such a selfish idiot and do the same in Alaska.

Update:  Never to let an opportunity to go by, Mitt 'The Snake' Romney now endorses Christine O'Donnell.  On one hand it is great for him to step up, make a donation and call for unity in the face of a bewildered, frenetic and silly elitist GOP base - but a day after?  El. Oh. El.
