Zombieland, starring Lisa Murkowski. Update: GOP issuing triple tap.

Although a double tap should have done it, yet Murkowski brushed aside Alaskan voters who chose Joe Miller and is now brushing aside Alaska's Libertarian Party.   First, let me be the first to say that the discussions over having Murkowski run on the Libertarian ticket went on for far too long.  How can a group representing constitutional limited government ever consider a porker like Murkowski?   That conversation should have lasted 2 minutes and gone something like this:

Murkowski:  Hey guys, I am your best chance at winning a Senate seat ever - support me.
Libertarian Party:  We are armed.

No, but seriously, what was there to consider?  An insider politician supporting TARP and proudly announcing industry support due to her exceptional skill of shoveling pork into Alaska.  At that rate, Obama would make a great Libertarian candidate too.

So what now?  Instead of acknowledging the political winds and the will of the Alaskan people, instead of graciously stepping aside and supporting Joe Miller, she is planning to launch a write-in campaign.

Another source familiar with Murkowski’s deliberations contends that she has definitely decided to remain in the race and challenge Miller and Democrat Scott McAdams in the general election.
Murkowski told the Fairbanks Daily-News Miner on Tuesday that all options remained on the table.
“I’m no quitter,” she said. “I’m weighing all my options and seeing what’s available.”

Yeah.  No quitter indeed, but certainly quite selfish.  Miller has pledged to fully and without any question repeal Obamacare, an issue the two battled over in the televised debate.  Miller also pledged a commitment to cutting all pork, no questions asked.  Finally, much more importantly Miller is actually looking to address our structural and fundamental issues. Bloated government and entitlement reform!

The biggest crisis looming on the horizon is most certainly Medicare/Medicaid and what they threaten to do with the budget, throw in Social Security and we are heading off a cliff faster than you can say "Ponzi".

Why not demonstrate to a large segment of the population that Miller's ideas are perfectly suitable and that you are willing to stand by him?  Why run as a centrist on a platform that has failed America over the past 30 years?   Not only does it lack any sense in the face of a growing financial disaster, but it simply demonstrates to all that career politicians are a menace and need to be stamped out.

Update:  Looks like the GOP had enough.  Presumably this move is primarily to diffuse a situation where a write-in campaign could damage Miller's chances, although they were less than ecstatic right after the primary win.   Regardless of motivation it is good to see that the winner is getting the support he deserves instead of nepotism and favoritism.  Murkowski is a dead woman walking.
